An evening on the rooftop

7.25.2012

Do you ever feel like your thoughts get all stuffed up inside and you can't think straight until you get outside?  Alright, even if you don't, the point is that tonight I just wanted to be outside in the quiet.  I don't know what it is about yoga but it makes me feel open, which makes me feel vulnerable and reflective.

I've wanted to take my camera up to the roof for ages (next time, it's happening at sunset) and I finally did it. I'm getting used to doing things alone now, even things such as walking to the store alone at 9:30 at night to grab a bottle of wine and nothing else.  Plus what's a more perfect place to have a glass of wine alone than on the roof on a summer night? (these photos are all un-edited)

Sweater Weather

7.24.2012

This band has been in heavy rotation on my iPod lately.  Enjoy!

"Head in the cloud, but my gravity's centered"

"And if I may just take your breath away
I don't mind if there's not much to say
sometimes the silence guides your mind"

I Left My Heart in San Diego

7.23.2012

This past weekend was the first time in a long time I lived my life instead of tweeting or photographing it (something I'm sure all my friends are pretty sick of).  I went down to visit San Diego and it was pretty wonderful.  Despite living there for four years in college, I got to see new things and eat at new restaurants, which was really a treat.  Lately all I want to do is discover new places in California, and I'm really appreciative of the fact that I got to do a little bit of that this weekend.

These pictures are from the Cabrillo National Monument and Mission Beach.  For the first time in the history of me posting pictures (I think) all of these are completely 100% unedited (which saved me a couple hours in Photoshop).

Letting Go

7.20.2012

One thing I have immense difficulty with is the act of letting go.  I'm not quite sure why, it's somehow ingrained in me.  However, I am slowly but surely getting the hang of this whole closure mess.

I remember having a conversation with my friend a couple months after moving back home from Sweden and had come to the realization that it wasn't something I was going to get over, it was just something I had to move on from.  It's a funny thing because in regards to many of my friendships I have a million-second chance policy.  Part of that is because I can't stand to let go of someone I have cared for in my life, even if we have hurt each other or distance has come between us.

I see things in black and white far too often and it's hard for me to reconcile that letting go of someone or something doesn't mean that they didn't mean a lot to me, or that I didn't love them.  It just means it's time to start a new chapter in my life, carrying with me the lessons I learned in the one previous.  I let confusion and hurt hang over my head and carrying it around becomes a burden and closes my eyes to the joy I have in front of me.  When it comes to endings, I seldom feel relief - instead I pine for what was and what could have been when I should be appreciating how it led to where I am today.  For one reason or another, it becomes time to say goodbye and to wash your hands of a situation.  Time reveals lessons from friendships, relationships, and life experiences, and I have to trust that my head and my heart will sort it all out in the end.

Piers and Volleyball Nets

7.19.2012

Last Friday, I put together an internal company party to celebrate our 25th anniversary.  I'm not going to be modest- it was awesome.  I hired an amazing steel drum band, ordered a very beautiful and very yummy cake, and after gorging ourselves on phenomenal mac & cheese (among other food), a small group of us went down to the beach to soak up the last bit of sun and play volleyball.  I'm not gonna lie, I didn't play for long (but when I did, I whupped some ass when serving) but it was mostly because I was itching to try out my new 50mm in a different setting.  I had so many more pictures but didn't feel comfortable posting pictures of my co-worker's faces so all you mostly get is a bunch of similar images of the pier and volleyball nets.
